After the birth of venture capital in Silicon Valley, the U.S. was seen as the world's home for tech innovation.  Today, the U.S. is only part of the story.  More than half of "unicorns" (tech companies valued at more than $1 billion) are coming from overseas, and exciting activity is happening even in places where you would least expect it.
 

Hear from Eddie Thai, a Partner with 500 Startups, the world's most active venture capital firm.  Eddie is focused on investing in Vietnam's next great tech startups as well as helping supporting 500's work in startup ecosystem development.  His efforts have been covered by Bloomberg, BBC, the Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, and various regional outlets. In 2015 he was recognized as one of Forbes Vietnam's 30 Under 30, and in 2016 he was selected to attend and speak at the World Economic Forum's flagship conference in Davos.

Prior to 500 Startups, he had experience in strategy and finance for companies & clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 corporations, primarily in the technology, media, and telecommunications sectors but also financial services, manufacturing, and energy. He received degrees from Harvard (AB '07, Government) and Yale (MBA '12), previously served on the global Board of Directors of the Harvard Alumni Association (2015-2018), and currently serves on the global Yale Alumni Association Assembly.  He grew up in Boca Raton (go Sharks!), and his parents have been residents of Palm Beach County for nearly 30 years.
