Jack Hanick's "Witness to the Current Russian Revolution"
There is a new revolution occurring in Russia, transforming Russian society, says Jack Hanick. He explains that this is all under the radar, as Americans see modern Russia through the lens of the cold war Soviet Union.
In 2013, Hanick and his wife and one-year-old son moved to Russia to launch an independent, privately financed tv network. Two years later, they all moved to Athens, where he created Hellas Net, the first tv network ever in Greece. In 2017, they moved back to Russia to expand the 24-hour news channel.
His presentation will be based on his observations as he interacted with Russian young people. Hanick holds an anthropology degree from Harvard. Using a cross-cultural approach, he will share his analysis of Russian youths’ understanding of their society.
An added bonus: An edited tasting of Russian vodka will be provided!
After graduating from Harvard, Jack received a NEH youth grant to create a documentary on aging in America. As a young adult he saw that the wisdom of old age was being disregarded as a function of an advertising culture of "if it's old, throw it away". The film opened at the Museum
of Modern Art in New York.
Jack has won two New York Emmys including Best Director. He spent a month in South Africa with Desmond Tutu and directed his biography on WNET 13 in New York.
There is no charge to attend this event.
