We are pleased to welcome Dr. Marie Tyrrell, who is visiting us from the Harvard Club of New York City. She has created several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) there and is currently leader of the “U.N. & Its Affiliates” SIG.
Dr. Tyrrell holds a Masters degree in International Diplomatic History from the London School of Economics, a second Masters in International Affairs and the Middle Eastern Studies from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in Soviet/Russian and Central Asian, Caucasus studies from Columbia.
Dr. Tyrrell was a diplomat at the UN under the Shah of Iran very briefly. From 1995 to 1999, she was a post-doctoral lecturer at Harvard University, Center for Middle East Studies. From 2000 to 2004, she was a Senior Fellow at Johns Hopkins University. From 2009 to 2013, she was a professor and chief analyst at the Department of Defense, CENTCOM, at Fort Bragg, NC, and from 2013 to 2016, she was a professor of languages and cultures at the National Security Agency in Fort Gordon, GA.
